Grant Research, Proposal, Application Help - OVERVIEW

Whether You're in The Smallest Town or the Largest City - T-21's Grant
Services Make Project Grant Funding Easy and Cost-Effective.

GRANTS and GRANT WRITING  -  OVERVIEW.

Grants are essentially gifts of money, which do not have to be repaid if used for certain defined purposes.   Every year, tens of thousands of Grants, Loans, and Loan Guarantees - worth nearly a half-Trillion-Dollars ($500,000,000.00) - are made by Federal, State, Regional and Local Government, Foundations, and Private entities.   Awards vary in size and type, including: 100% Awards, Cost-Matching Awards, Loans, Loan Guarantees, and Others.

The Basics of Getting a Grant:

  • You've seen scam advertisements screaming, "Free Grant Money For Anyone Willing to Apply!!"   You know that life isn't really like that - Grants aren't either.

  • T-21 does not condone or use these false promises and other "ad lures."   Our professionals perform quality Grant Assistance for those seriously interested in applying for them.   Grants are not Benefits or Entitlements and no person or organization can be guaranteed that they will receive one.

  • If you have a project that matches a funding program's goals and requirements - a first-rate Grant Assistance firm (like T-21), and you do your homework - you have a good chance of obtaining a monetary award.   When you do receive a Grant award, you must use it according to its specifications and adhere to what you promise in your application.   If you don't, you could be subject to an audit.

More About Grants:

  • Grant Awards might be termed "Free Money For Defined Purposes;"

  • Grant Awards are, generally, only made to specific applicant groups or types - for specific purposes, considered worthwhile by the Grantor (the entity making the money available);

  • Grantors limit how funds may be used;  and

  • To get a Grant Award, you'll need some Grant Assistance, as T-21 provides, and effort on your part.   To view more about your part in the process, click:

Don't Give Up on Getting a Grant.

Don't - in desperation - turn to a "Grant scam artist," hoping they can work magic.   You may be underestimating the value of your proposed project; it may well qualify for a Grant.   If it does, T-21 can help you through the entire Application process;  if not, we can help you take steps to qualify.

RANT APPLICATION OVERVIEW:  T-21  Makes It Easy and Economical.

A Grant is usually offered in an "RFP" (Request For Proposal), issued by a Grantor.   RFPs are published in selective periodicals, posted on individual Institutional Web Sites, or listed in Web Sites that aggregate available Grants by subject / purpose, recipient type, or grantor type;  (some available grants are never published at all).   An RFP usually specifies the Type of Applicants that will be considered, the Purpose of the Grant, and the Grant Terms (financial limits, monetary allocation, terms of use).

T-21 provides the lowest cost professional Grant funding assistance - whenever you need it.   You pick and choose the services you want, according to your particular needs:

Many Grant Writers just write the Grant Applications - nothing more.

If you use non-professional Grant Writers, you may struggle - alone - with the grant prerequisites, includingRegistrations,  Plans,  Budgets,  Timelines, Process Steps, and other requirements.   Then, when you reach the Application stage, the Grant Writer steps-in and completes only that part.   Depending on your experience and staffing - this can be a difficult and frustrating experience.

T-21 Does More than Simple Grant Writing by Providing  End-to-End  Grant Support.

T-21 is different.   We're there for you with  whatever you need,  whenever you need it - taking the worry and frustration out of the Grant process by offering a broad range of advice and support services.   Our Grant Specialists will guide you at every step and provide specific support, including help with:  Project Plan Development,  Budgeting,  Professional Project Presentations (complete with graphics),  Grant Writing, and  Post Award Reporting.

You're in charge.   You can select which T-21 services you require and the amount and depth of work you desire.   You may increase, decrease, change, or halt any work in progress at any time.   If you stop or pause work, you are responsible only for payment of work completed up to that time.

G
RANT APPLICATION SUCCESS FACTORS - an OVERVIEW.

Grant success depends on a number of factors, including:  The relevance of the Grant Proposal to the RFP's objectives,  the Quality and Thoroughness of the Application,  the Applicant's Experience in the proposed project field,  demonstration of success in similar or related work, as well as the reliability of the Grant Applicant and the viability of the proposed Project Plan.

This don't mean to imply that a "new and innovative concept" or a "first-time" applicant won't be funded;  in fact - many Grantors are seeking new and better ways of doing things.   We do stress that success in obtaining Grant funding improves with "doing your homework."   Grantors don't fund "concepts" without good research and planning,  demonstration of the proposed benefits,  a reasonable probability of success, and  sustainability after the Grant period (if the Grant is for a continuing project).

To be successful, you must emphasize your strengths in the most compelling and professional manner possible.   Demonstration of previous work in a related area,  other successful Grant Projects,  ability to accomplish the proposed project, and  sustaining the project after the Grant Period (if applicable) will count highly in a Grantor's assessment of a Grant Proposal (hence the Grantor adage, "Give To Strength").   T-21 can help.

Applicant probability of receiving a Grant Award depends on a number of factors.   Although each Grantor has their own method and biases for evaluating Applications - the importance of each criterion for Application consideration can generally be viewed as follows:

Grant Application Criteria

The probability of any proposal receiving a Grant Award varies.

Probability of success depends on the Applicant's criteria rankings (re: chart, above) and the number and quality of other competitive Grant applications.   Our experience indicates that "strong" applicants are successful 60% - 80% of the time, while "weaker" applicants or those submitting "cookie cutter" or "blanket applications," experience less than a 20% success rate.   Inexperienced / D-I-Y Applicants, ranking low on the criteria, above, or those using inexperienced Grant Writers or cut-rate "Grant Writing Mills" rarely see much success.

C
OSTS and BILLING METHODS for GRANT ASSISTANCE.

There is no meaningful "average" cost for Grant Research and Application assistance because every Grant Applicant is different and every Grant RFP has its own special requirements.   However, at T-21, we know that cost is important to everyone, so we keep our rates the lowest in the professional Grant Assistance field.

T-21 provides a broader, more flexible array of Grant Assistance services than those who supply only Grant Writing services.   Our Grant Specialists advise and guide you through the entire process, including:  Data Collection,  Timelines,  Budgeting,  completion of your Grant Applications, and  Post Application Follow-Up and Reporting.   Other T-21 Team Specialists can provide Professional Presentations and Brochures for your project - complete with analytical graphs, cogent graphical data displays, and compelling text.   You choose what services you want.

BILLING METHODS.  Four billing methods (some good, some bad) are used by some Grant Assistance firms:

  • PER HOUR - The Grant Assistance firm provides the Applicant with:  a guaranteed "per hour" rate quote,  a delineation of the jobs / products that are involved, and  an estimate of the number of hours / dollars.   Grantors approve of this method.   One variation of this is "Per Hour With a Maximum."   Look for a firm - like T-21 - that offers reasonable rates and high quality work.   T-21 offers this billing method and recommends it in most cases.

  • FIXED AMOUNT - The Grant Assistance firm charges a fixed amount for your project.   Grantors approve of this method, but there are drawbacks to it.   This method is best used in very simple, straightforward Grant Applications.   T-21 does offer this method in selected cases.

  • CONTINGENCY - No up-front cost to Applicant;  the Grant Assistance firm receives a high percentage of any Grant Award in return for assuming risk.   Grant recipients receive less Grant Award money, so must make up the difference themselves.   Virtually all Grantors reject Applications with this arrangement.   T-21 Does Not offer this billing method.

  • FIXED PLUS INCENTIVE - The Grant Assistance firm charges a reduced fixed amount or hourly rate and receives a lower percentage of any Grant Award in return for assuming less risk.   The Applicant pays a lower amount up-front, then has more of the Grant Money to work with if awarded.   Most Grantors disapprove of this method.   T-21 Does Not offer this billing method.

AVERAGE COSTS.   Costs are dependent on the work time required.   Federal Grants are usually more rigorous and involve more paperwork than Foundation and Private Grants and thus require more preparation and interaction.   However, the following chart, listing average costs from $882 - $3822, will provide a "ballpark" idea of costs for projects of various sizes:
