HOOSING THE RIGHT TELEPHONE LONG DISTANCE PLAN.

You won't save the most by just selecting the lowest, advertised per minute charge.   Over time, monthly bills for telephone service add-up to a large sum of money (as you saw above).   But, there's a lot more to it than just the simple per minute charge:

Paradoxically, selecting the cheapest per minute plan could end-up costing you more than others, charging more per minute.   Since the breakup of AT&T™ decades ago - long-distance carriers have become creative in the way that they charge.   (Reliability and Customer Service are also major factors.)

There are often hidden-charge provisions, like:  Base Rates,  Per Call Connection Minimums,  Time-of-Day Rates,  Incremental Billing (portion of a minute on which they bill),  and others.   These are not always easy to identify in plan descriptions or in the actual statements you would receive - but they will be included in the bill you get.   These factors add costs that are not evident from just the advertised per minute rates.

Where you call and when you call may also influence overall costs.   Also, some LD rates are bait-and-switch, where you may get a low rate for a while, but will see increases later (they assume that you won't notice the increase, later on).

There are also some emerging options that should be considered, only in some cases:

  • Cable (TV) Telephony.   These services are offered in many areas and may benefit some callers, depending on their calling patterns and other, subscribed services;  but, there are a number of factors that must be considered before choosing one of these plans.
     

  • Internet Telephony (VoIP).   This Long-Distance service is offered in several forms and often has appealing prices with possible savings for just certain users with particular calling needs;  but this technology has some important drawbacks.

Plan analysis costs can vary, depending on the number of line-entries from your telephone bills to be entered into our programs and any ancillary issues that are important to you.   For a simple, small-sample entry analysis, costs start at just $19.   For a more complex analysis with larger samplings, and multiple-users, with different calling patterns, costs will be higher.
