#1.  PRIVATE REGISTRATION of ORIGINAL WORK.

#1.  YOU CAN ONLY  MAKE THEFT MORE DIFFICULT.

Anyone can copy almost anything from the Internet if they have access to a Web browser and Internet access.   (Anyone who tells you differently is a charlatan.)    You can, however, make it much more difficult to copy your original works and make a stolen copy less usable for thieves.

     To determine what to steal, thieves decide if:

• Your Creation is  EASIER  to STEAL Than Others,
   
• The Payoff is  WORTH the EFFORT  to Steal it,  and
   
• The CHANCES of  GETTING CAUGHT  are High or Low.

#2.  WEB SITE  "COPY-PROTECTION"  SCHEMES  DON'T WORK.

Anyone, with no more than a beginner's knowledge of the Internet and a little effort, can subvert any existing theft-prevention system.   (Even beginners can join online groups, instructing them - for free - in the art of beating protection schemes.)   Pseudo-protection schemes, such as "No Right-Click" and others, make copying just a little more difficult;  that's all.  

"Why is it like this?"    The short answer is:  If someone can see something on their monitor - it exists on their computer and can be copied.   There's always a way.

#3.  SELF-REGISTRATION DOESN'T WORK.

You must prove your ownership to press your rights;  but ownership authentication that you generate will be disputed - since you have a direct interest in the issue.   Technically, in the USA, you have an automatic copyright to any work you create - at the moment you create it.   But this, by itself, doesn't mean much:

• YOUR WORD AGAINST THEIRS.   If you try to stop illegal use of your original works, using only your personal documentation - you will encounter problems.   (For example, if you kept a log of your creations, a thief's response might be to produce a similar log, claiming yours is the fake one.)   The result is a stalemate;  No Resolution.
   

• SEND YOURSELF A REGISTERED COPY OF YOUR WORK.   This is an old, moderately expensive, mostly ineffective, measure.   In the world of electronic communications, it's almost impossible to prove to someone, distant from you (a Web Host, for example), that you possess an envelope with specific contents in it.   Consider:

• If you send the original sealed envelope, the recipient will open it and your 'sealed' proof is lost and out of your possession.   Ineffective.
   

• If you break the seal on the Registered envelope - it's worthless;  someone can claim that you falsified what was in it.   Wasted effort.
   

• If you had sworn, notarized statements of witnesses (who are not friends or relatives), attesting to exactly what, in detail, was in the envelope, it would be a basis for proof - but they'd have to attest to exact details later.   Cumbersome, unworkable.

#4.  REGISTRATION of YOUR WEB SITE CONTENT.

In the USA, anyone can sue anyone else for almost anything.   It may be costly and they may not prevail - but they can sue.   Do you really want to get into that?

• Official Registration of an original work provides you with:
  • Proof for Your Claim of Ownership, 
  • The right to sue for royalty fees and punitive damages.
      
• T-21's Original Works Registration provides you with:
